100 facts in 100 days – Fact 019

Jul48:21 pm

As most of you will know I am a big fan of Doctor Who. The new stuff this is, I did used to watch the old eps when I was a kid but can’t really remember them – I do remember that I enjoyed them but I am basing my fondness on since it returned. I have also not long ago started watching Torchwood too. I admit I only started watching it because I got to ogle at jack for a whole 45 minutes but I do enjoy the actual program too ;-) .

I enjoyed most of the recent series of Who, Blink being my favourite episode, Daleks in Manhattan the least and you don’t even want to get me started on John Simm as The Master – genius! I really like Martha, and hit me if you want but I actually prefer her to Rose. To me she is more of an equal to The Doctor, she had knowledge too and the doctor inside her was making her want to help people, but that is just my opinion. Before Martha came along I was a Rose fan girl i.e. I am not at all loyal :-) . I do like Rose, but for different reasons and Martha just comes out on top.

I am a bit disappointed that she will be missing from the first half of season 4 (but she will be in Torchwood so that will make up for it). I was excited to hear the doctor would be getting an extra companion for 4 that would be with him for the whole season. However, you may know that Catherine Tate is in talks to reprise her role of Donna.

I am less than enthusiastic about this unfortunately. I liked the runaway bride as a Christmas special, just what it was meant to be, a one off special as Kylie in this years Christmas one will be. I love Kylie (yes I have seen her live, I know I am sad you don’t need to tell me), I wouldn’t want her to be in it permanently but I am looking forward to her being in the special.

Catherine Tate’s character was likable but I just cannot imagine her being The Doctor’s permanent companion. I can look past her being a loud mouth shouty person in runaway bride as the sanest of women go crazy when getting married, let alone all the other stuff that happened. Maybe if they did tone her down it would be OK, but however much I try to think it will be OK I just can’t seem to get enthused by the idea. However, I did not think Billie Piper would be any good as Rose and then I quickly changed my mind. I will quite happily admit to being proven wrong when the time is right.

So yes, I am turning into a proper Dr Who/Torchwood nutter, I can watch it all day and not get bored. The only problem is that I will now have to wait until later this year for a new fix of Torchwood, Christmas for the Dr Who special and then next year for the next series.  Will I be able to survive? ;-)

100 facts in 100 days – Fact 018 – THE RETURN!

Mar252:36 pm

OK, in an effort to get me blogging again I have decided to carry on with this 100 facts thing that I started ages ago all the way back in 2006 and only got to number 17 before I got bored.

So number 18:

As you probably know I am currently studying at Liverpool John Moores. However, this is not my first stint at uni.

I have previously studied at Derby university doing a degree in Tourism. Well, when I say studied I mean studying how long it took me to down a pint of lager as I think my time at Derby would definitely be classed as a degree in alcohol. I did get a degree, just not a very high one and by the end of it I had completely gone of the course. To be honest, when looking back now and realising how much I am enjoying my current degree I don’t think I really was ever interested in the course. I so wish my teachers at school had told me to stop being silly and do something else, I knew they thought it they just didn’t say it. I guess everything happens for a reason though.

I am not saying tourism is a silly course, just it wasn’t right for me. I can be far more geeky (and proud) doing my Internet Computing course.

100 facts in 100 days – Fact 017

Sep212:05 pm

I am behind again! Surprise surprise! OK, I have no excuse this time apart from being bored of this meme… maybe 100 facts is too many, maybe I will change it to… 20! Ohhh, then I will nearly be finished! hehe.

I love trains! No don’t worry I am not a train spotter, what I mean is I love going on them. It means I am going somewhere. I will quite happily sit on a train for hours because I know at the end of it I will be at somewhere different and possibly new.

There are only three things I hate about train journeys.

  1. Getting stuck in the mobile free carriage, especially when you need to phone your parents to get them to come and pick you up. It means moving… tut!
  2. Having to try and manoeuvre yourself around people’s luggage that has been left in the gangway, made worse when you have your own luggage to continue with.
  3. Over crowded trains with no spare seats.

What does make me giggle though is some of the snooty people that get on board. On the way home from my recent trip to Liverpool there was such an incident. The train starts at Liverpool and they were letting people on really early, that’s nice of them, beats standing on the platform for ages.

100 facts in 100 days – Fact 015

Aug3011:11 pm

Still playing catch up with my facts, hopefully I should get them done today! (If I can think of anything interesting to write about)

So, fact 15…

I love board games, especially monopoly but never get to play them, like ever. I constantly lost in monopoly when I was growing up, not because I was crap at the game… well, in a way I was. I used to sell properties to people for $1. Yeah that’s gonna win you the game!

There’s nothing like a good game of monopoly to pass a boring evening.

100 facts in 100 days – Fact 014

Aug296:42 pm

Opps! I am a bit behind on my 100 facts! Sorry! My grandma has been staying so I have been distracted!

So, number 14… Yes  I am going to cheat and steal Yoshi’s fact.

I too am a night owl, always have been and imagine I always will be. I very rarely, and I mean very rarely go to bed before midnight. If I do its because I am ill or have to be up extremely early (anytime before 7) and thankfully neither of these occur very often.

I work better at night, not just because there are less distractions (I admit to being easily distracted) but I just seem to be able to work better late at night. Doing an all night-er doesn’t phase me at all either, although as stated in a previous fact I do want to try to stop doing last minute all night assignments as I know I will get better marks from doing them properly.

Most nights I will go to bed around 2 am. I think I mainly do this as it means  I get a few hours of peace after everyone has gone to bed. I like company but there is nothing like a bit of time to yourself at the end of the day.

…..

I will catch up with the remaining facts after my tea!

100 facts in 100 days – Fact 013

Aug271:13 am

Malibu.

Most of my readers will know that Malibu was a bit part of my life for a number of years. no, not in the alcohol fulled way that you will be thinking but I adopted the name as a user name for a student site that I spent far too many hours on during my first stint at uni.

When I registered at the site, I had trouble thinking of a decent name.  I was feeling the effects of a booze fulled weekend after having friends visit me. On my desk was an empty bottle of Malibu, the one drink that I detest and would not drink if you paid me. So that became my name, it was only meant to be temporary but it quickly stuck and I still have trouble shaking it to this day.

More worryingly, not long before the end of the uni year just gone one of my flat mates had a bottle of Malibu, I decided to be brave and try it… and I actually quite liked it.

100 facts in 100 days – Fact 012

Aug2611:54 pm

As many of you will know I am currently studying for my second degree (yes, I know, I am greedy).

I have always been a bit of a computer buff. Having been brought up by a father that is quite the computer enthusiast I have had one ever since I can remember.

The first time round at uni I started off with looking at computer courses. I always thought that’s whats I would go into. But then I got looking at geography related courses, particularly tourism as I found it interesting after studying it in A’level geography. And that was that, I got swayed.

I didn’t really enjoy the course from the start but didn’t realise this until towards the end of the second year. It was too business studies focused, and I got bored of doing endlessly boring Human Resource modules. By the second year though I decided it would be silly to give up now so plowed on secretly wishing I had stuck to the computer path.

And now, here I am 4 years later, doing what I set out to do.

100 facts in 100 days – Fact 011

Aug2512:45 am

I love taking photo’s, I only wish I did it more often. At Derby I was the photo taker. I had photographic evidence of every drunken situation we got ourselves into and looking at them now, even 7 – 8 years later that one photograph sends back a ton of memories.

I keep saying that I am going to carry my camera with me where ever I go, but on the rare occasion I remember to take it with me I often forget or chicken out of taking photo’s.

But I am making a 3/4 of a new years resolution for when I go back to Liverpool (there is nothing interesting to take pics of here) and that is to take more photo’s, of friends and places.

100 facts in 100 days – Fact 010

Aug2411:32 pm

So far, whatever job I have had has been in retail. I used to enjoy it to the lengths where I was seriously considering taking it further, but then I went to Morrisons and swiftly changed my mind.

The main aspect of retail that I hate is the hours. You have to work weekends, you only get 2 days off for Christmas and one for Easter – both of which I am sure the majority of supermarkets would open for if they could get away with it. You have to work bank holidays and Sundays (Sundays which these days you only get paid normal rate and only time and a half on bank holidays – we don’t even get time and a half for going over 39 hours these days).

I won’t miss retail when I finally leave it. I long for the 9-5, Monday to Friday routine. People that say its boring really should go and work in a supermarket for a year.
